Director and actor Benjamin Lazar has brought together all eras and genres of music and theatre during his career. In 2004, with ensemble Le Poème Harmonique, he staged an acclaimed production of Le Bourgeois gentilhomme. The same year, Benjamin founded his company Le Théâtre de l’Incrédule. Notable successes include L’Autre monde ou les états et empires de la lune, Les Amours tragiques de Pyrame et Thisbé, Les Caractères of La Bruyère and Les Fables of La Fontaine.
He also stages opera productions in many of Europe’s leading venues, collaborating with, among others, Le Poème Harmonique, Les Arts Florissants, Les Musiciens du Louvre, Les Cris de Paris and Le Balcon. Works range from Baroque opera to contemporary music. In 2015, he created Le Dibbouk de Shalom Anski at Printemps des Comédiens in Montpellier, performed at the Théâtre du Nord in Lille in 2016. His piece Traviata/Vous méritez un avenir meilleur was highly acclaimed by the press and the audiences.
During 2018/19, Benjamin stages Stockhausen’s Donnerstag aus Licht for its french premiere at the Théâtre National de l’Opéra-Comique, and the new play Heptaméron, récits de la chambre obscure with le Théâtre de l’Incrédule and Les Cris de Paris.
